(TULSA, Okla.) COVID-19 test results have come back from the Oklahoma State Department of Health Laboratory with a new (presumptive) positive case of COVID-19 in Tulsa County. With this new result, the total number of cases in Tulsa County is two; both travel-related with no known link to each other. Information regarding the number of individuals under investigation can be found on the OSDH website. The new presumptive positive case is in: A female in her 20s, with travel history to Italy. Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum said this second case is not due to contact with the first case. Their travel to Italy was separate and unrelated. The Health Department is tracing exactly where this woman has been, and Bynum was told she self-isolated upon arrival in Tulsa. “Please keep in your thoughts both of these Tulsans and their families as these individuals recover from this illness,” Bynum said on social media Tuesday. “We also learned today that Tulsans who were aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship that docked in Oakland will be allowed to return home if they do not show symptoms of COVID. Upon arrival in Tulsa, they will be quarantined at home.” Anyone returning to Tulsa from Italy is being directed by health officials to self-isolate for 14 days. If you feel like you have symptoms, please contact your health provider. If you do not have one, please call 2-1-1 to be connected with assistance.
“Can’t repeat often enough how important it is for all of us to wash our hands regularly, to not shake hands with people, and to stay home from work if we are feeling ill,” Bynum said. The Oklahoma State Department of Health has established a call center to answer COVID-19 related questions. The number is 877-215-8336. The call center has the capability to connect callers to Spanish-speaking interpreters. Hours can be found at coronavirus.health.ok.gov. You can also contact the Tulsa Health Department during normal business hours with COVID-19 related questions. The number is 918-582-WELL (9355). The Tulsa Health Department (THD) is working closely with OSDH as quickly as possible to conduct an epidemiological investigation and identify close contacts of the presumptive positive case. The sample has been sent to CDC for confirmation testing. THD will provide additional updates as the investigation continues.
