(BIXBY, Okla.) Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, many outreach centers have been forced to increase their output, and Bixby is no different. We’re told the Bixby Outreach Center has doubled the number of families they serve with food and resources on a weekly basis. Families have lost their jobs, and many children had been relying on eating lunch at school. More seniors are also forced to stay home, due to risk of exposure. Those needy families were recently given a helping hand, thanks to $1000 in relief funds raised by Modern Woodmen of America in Bixby. “This company truly came together to support a local need,” said Malinda Murphy, local Modern Woodmen volunteer leader. “That support is what it’s all about.” The outreach center said the money will be spent purchasing food to restock their pantry for various food programs. Murphy said Modern Woodmen sells life insurance, annuity and investment products not to benefit stockholders but to improve quality of life for its members, their families and their communities. We’re told the tax-exempt fraternal benefit society and its members provide nearly $20 million and over 400,000 volunteer hours for community projects nationwide.
