Thanksgiving armed robbery with a pursuit and foot chase

On 11/22/2018 at about 10 am we responded to the QT at 21st and 129th E. Ave. in reference an Armed Robbery of an individual. The suspect, described as a black male 20-25 years of age, 510-6”, 130-150 lbs., wearing a maroon hoodie under a black jacket, confronted a Hispanic female in the parking lot. The suspect pulled out a box knife, demanding victim’s purse. The suspect left in an older model white Ford F150 crew cab pickup truck.

At 11:05 am we responded to the Walmart at 6625 S. Memorial for an attempted Armed Robbery of an individual, the suspect vehicle and clothing description matched those from the earlier Armed Robbery. The suspect pulled a box knife to a male victim who refused to cooperate and the suspect took off. The suspect was seen fleeing the parking lot southbound on S. Memorial Dr.

At 11:21 am, Officer Montgomery found the vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description backed into a parking space at the Walgreen’s at 71st and Sheridan. Unbeknownst to Officer Montgomery, suspect was robbing a third victim in the parking lot at that time. Victim was robbed at knife point of her purse.

The suspect fled in the white Ford F150 which had been reported stolen on 11/16. The suspect then led officers on a 7 minute vehicle pursuit from 71st and Sheridan to the area of 34th and Garnett.

After pulling into a neighborhood, the suspect collided with a parked car, rounded the dead end, then rammed Corporal Smith head-on in an injury collision. After hitting Corporal Smith, the suspect, later identified as Joshua Shamlin ran from the truck into the neighborhood. Responding officers established a perimeter and caught the suspect at 3330 S. 118th E. Ave.

Shamlin was arrested and booked for Armed Robbery (X2) Attempted Armed Robbery, Felony Eluding, Hit and Run with an Injury, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Possession of Stolen Vehicle.
