(TULSA, Okla.) Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) is celebrating their own this week. Officials released the following statement to recognize their first responders: EMSA is celebrating its frontline healthcare heroes and all EMSA Team Members for EMS Week 2020. EMS Week, May 17th through 23rd, is celebrated nationwide to honor medics, dispatchers, and support staff for their hard work and dedication to their communities. This year, EMS Week takes on a special meaning as EMSA Team Members continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many planned celebrations have been altered or postponed in the interest of health and safety, but EMSA is creatively making sure crews feel supported and appreciated in the midst of social distancing. “Each day I am proud of the work our medics and Team Members do to serve our patients, but I am especially proud this year as they have made sacrifices to respond to COVID-19. This EMS Week, I hope everyone can appreciate how our EMSA medics have never batted an eye to working for the most vulnerable in our communities,” EMSA President and CEO Jim Winham said. Beyond small celebrations happening at EMSA and local hospitals this week, the cities of Tulsa and Oklahoma City have proclaimed this week EMS Week in honor of the EMSA medics serving both cities.
