Heat Advisory issued for Monday
OklahomaWeather
(TULSA, Okla.) Hot and humid weather will continue Monday, and we have issued a heat advisory for much of eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas.
The heat advisory will be in effect for the following counties from noon to 8 p.m. Monday:
Crawford, Franklin, Sebastian, Osage, Washington (OK), Nowata, Craig, Ottawa, Pawnee, Tulsa, Rogers, Mayes, Delaware, Creek, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Wagoner, Cherokee, Muskogee, McIntosh, Sequoyah, Pittsburg, Haskell, Latimer and Le Flore.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Heat index values up to 107 degrees are expected.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.
As for next week’s forecast, an upper ridge over the area will retrograde to the west, putting our area in northwest flow aloft. Several shortwaves embedded in the flow will result in periodic storm activity, beginning Monday night and continuing through much of the work week. Temperatures will also be slightly cooler Tuesday through Friday due to increased cloudiness and precipitation.
Hot weather will return for next weekend, but a cold front will approach from the north late Sunday bringing another chance of showers and thunderstorms.
