Section of I-35 Dedicated to Fallen Trooper

(MOORE, Okla.) New highway signs were unveiled on I-35 Thursday designating a 2 mile stretch as the "LT. Heath Meyer #64 Memorial Highway."   Lieutenant Heath Meyer died in the line of duty in 2017. His badge number was 64. His wife, Missy, two daughters and several other family members attended a ceremony revealing the new signs.   Senator Rob Standridge authored Senate Bill 338 that designated one mile north and one mile south of N. 27th Street in Moore on I-35 as the new Memorial Highway.   On the night of July 14, 2017, trooper were pursuing driver D'angelo Burgess, who fled from a traffic stop and led troopers on a high-speed pursuit. LT Meyer deployed stop sticks near I-35 and 27th Street in Moore. Burgess managed to avoid the stop sticks, but two troopers in pursuit braked quickly and their vehicles collided, striking LT Meyer.   Burgess was taken into custody a short time later and ultimately convicted of first degree felony murder and sentenced to life in prison. LT Meyer succumbed to his injuries July 24, 2017.
