(TULSA, Okla.) Around 10:40 Tuesday morning, officers from the Motorcycle Unit and Mingo Valley Division Traffic Unit had the left lane closed of the BA expressway WB just west of 145th E. Ave. due to an injury collision. Officers noticed a black Subaru coming toward them in the left hand lane in excess of 70 mph. The officers waved and shouted at the driver trying to get his attention before both officers jumped over the concrete center wall to safety. The driver was driving in the correction direction, but failed to merge out of the way of the accident where the lanes were already closed. The driver crashed into and totaled a 2018 Ford unmarked police car and a 2020 Harley Davidson police motorcycle, along with another citizen's vehicle. Fortunately, both officers were alert and aware of their surroundings, which likely saved their lives, and they were not hurt. The driver admitted he was scrolling through his phone while driving, and said he never saw the emergency cars and lane close before the crash. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He will be arrested for DUI-drugs, along with several traffic violations. This is an excellent reminder of the dangers of inattentive driving.
