(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) Customers who are fully vaccinated can now shop without masks at Meijer as long as its allowed by their state and local rules.

Meijer which sells grocery items as well as other general retail items has more than 240 locations.

The retail chain has locations in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

The announcement about the updated mask policy from Meijer came on Monday, less than a week after the Centers For Disease Control (CDC), said fully vaccinated people do not need to wear masks indoors in most cases.

The statement released by Meijer regarding the updated mask policy says: "Starting today, fully vaccinated customers may shop without a face covering where allowed under state or local law. Non-vaccinated customers must continue to wear a face covering while shopping in our stores, except where medical conditions prevent them from wearing one.  Our team members will still be required to wear face coverings while we evaluate regulatory requirements."
