A week of thunderstorm chances ahead
(TULSA, Okla.) Shower activity will continue through Sunday evening. An isolated rumble of thunder will be possible before slightly dry air moves in. The overnight hours will see a break in the shower activity with even some clearing here and there.
Monday morning will see the atmospheric river get started up once again bringing us chances for more showers (mainly in Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas).
Beginning early, another slug of moisture will spread into western portions of the forecast area in advance of a northward lifting wave currently off the northeastern coast of Mexico. Expect shower and thunderstorm coverage to again expand through the day and into the overnight hours as the wave makes its approach.
Beyond Tuesday, a less amplified pattern develops across the region that will persist through the remainder of the work week and into the weekend. For at least the middle part of the week, the shower and thunderstorm focus across eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas will be on High Plains evening and overnight thunderstorm complexes and their respective evolutions as they move toward the area during the early morning hours.
Through this period, the overall potential for severe weather should increase, with the concern particularly increasing late in the week with a southward shift in the upper jet. Still a lot of details that remain in question regarding the severe weather potential for late next week, but it bears watching in the coming days by anyone that would like to get an early start to outdoor activities for the holiday weekend.
