(TULSA, Okla.) A cluster of thunderstorms currently moving across the Tulsa sites will continue to progress to the south and eventually die off as sunset approaches. Otherwise, light winds are expected throughout the period. There is another chance for some afternoon thunderstorms Monday afternoon, mainly across northeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas.

An outflow boundary from early day storms in Kansas pushed south into far northeast Oklahoma, with additional showers and storms forming near and just north of this boundary. Surface dew points pooled near 80 just south of the boundary, resulting in isolated heat index values near or just above 110.

Isolated to widely scattered convection will remain possible over the next couple days, with the higher chances slowly shifting south and southwest with time. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible with slow moving storms over the next couple days, but many locations will remain dry. A heat advisory was issued again for Monday for much of the forecast area, although it is possible that a random localized corridor may remain below criteria due to clouds and storms.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.

An upper ridge will park itself over the area later this week into next weekend ending any mentionable chance of precipitation and leading to temperatures even slightly hotter than they are now. Additional heat headlines will likely be needed all week.
