(GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich.) The Grand Traverse County Health Department is advising the public to stay out of the water at Bryant Park Beach.

According to the health department about 200 gallons of untreated sewage was accidentally released from a sewer main near Hastings Street and Parsons Road in Traverse City on Monday night.

That raw sewage went into a catch basin from a storm sewer that discharges near Bryant Park on West Grand Traverse Bay.

Samples from the water at Bryant Park were collected Tuesday and results will be available on Wednesday.

The health department says that when the results show that the water meets the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) standards for E. Coli, the advisory will be lifted.

According to the health department, Traverse City's drinking water isn't affected because it comes from East Grand Traverse Bay.
