Man faces charges after being accused of threatening Whitmer
(LANSING, Mich.) A man is facing charges after allegedly threatening Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
On Monday Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's office announced that Kevin Dawe, a Clarkston man was charged with two counts of malicious use of telecommunication services.
The charges stem from two incidents that took place in January and March of 2021.
According to Nessel's office, Dawe used the internet to send threatening messages with vulgar language to Whitmer's constituent services department.
A censored excerpt of one of the messages released by Nessel's office is below.
“Take care . . . and maybe shelter. We have been watching and know your every step. You f*** with everyday hard-working Americans, we F*** WITH YOU.”
Each of the charges Dawe faces are misdemeanors that carry the possibility of up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
In response to the charges Nessel said, "There is a fine line between airing grievances with an elected official and threatening their life or their loved ones,” Nessel said. “My office stands ready to pursue criminal charges against anyone who crosses that line.”
