(TULSA, Okla.) Very poor fire weather conditions continued across much of eastern Oklahoma Sunday, with temperatures in the upper 80s/lower 90s and gusty south/southwest winds persisting. A few locations across Pawnee, Osage and Washington counties briefly touched Red Flag Warning criteria where sustained winds have been the strongest. Fairly similar conditions are expected for Monday, although low-level moisture should be slightly improved and winds a bit lighter.

A pattern change will occur next week as we transition from a dry, weak ridging to a more active, moist southwesterly flow aloft. The initial upper low currently over the Desert southwest will open up and lift into the Plains, with deeper moisture eventually overspreading the area.

Rain chances should begin to increase later Tuesday night, with the higher chances forecast for Wednesday into Thursday. A secondary upper low will develop across the southwestern states later in the week, and will be a bit slower to kick northeast. This will keep the higher rain chances and amounts mostly west of the area, but we still have a chance for storms going into Saturday.

Afternoon temperatures will be held in check by clouds and rainfall, although highs will still remain near or a little above normal (and a little muggy with dewpoints well into the 60s).
