(BROOME COUNTY, N.Y.) As temperatures begin to drop, Broome County is buzzing with fall festivities such as apple picking and “trunk or treat” events.

The Broome County Urban League is holding their annual fall festival this year at Binghamton’s Rec Park.

They tell us they are hoping for a day of fun for families throughout the community.

This year’s festival will consist of a costume contest, live DJ, face painting and pumpkin painting for the youth. The Urban League has also decided to add a special touch to the festival in support of local minority entrepreneurs. They have invited 12 local vendors to attend the event and spread awareness about their businesses and/or organizations.

Urban League’s Director of Youth and Family Services Nikki Restino said she is looking forward to merging the vendors with the children’s activities.

“It means a lot for us to support minority owned businesses, especially after the rough two years it has been for the economy,” Restino said. “As the event is focused on children, they obviously must be accompanied by their parents. It will be nice for parents to be able to swing by the tables and do some shopping as the kids are having their fun.“

The Fall Festival will take place Saturday, October 30, at Rec Park from 12pm-3pm. To learn more about the Urban League’s cause, visit them at www.bcul.org
