(TULSA, Okla.) Tulsa Health Department (THD) officials are closely monitoring the upcoming inclement weather predicted this week. If weather conditions warrant the closure of THD locations, updates will be shared on the THD website and social media channels. Individuals with appointments for those days will be rescheduled by THD staff, including appointments for COVID-19 testing at our NRWHC location.

“When we consider canceling, we don’t take that decision lightly and there’s a lot of thought that goes into that decision,” said THD Division Chief of Prevention, Preparedness and Response Kelly VanBuskirk,  “We know residents are anxious about COVID testing, receiving their primary dose or booster dose, or receiving other services at THD, however, it comes down to the safety of our clients and our staff.”

THD wants to continue to provide services to Oklahomans, but residents’ safety, especially when traveling to appointments, remains paramount. With ice and snow in the future forecast, THD wants to ensure those coming for their appointment can safely navigate the parking lot and sidewalk into the clinic locations.

“Taking that into consideration, we don’t want the risk of anyone falling and getting hurt; especially those with mobility limitations,” added VanBuskirk.

THD staff will continue to monitor weather conditions through the rest of the week and will notify residents if conditions warrant any closures. If clients are unable to make it to their scheduled appointment, they are asked to notify the clinic by calling 918-582-9355.
