(LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich.) Glen Lake firefighters are reminding people to stay on designated trails when they visit Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

In a social media post, Glen Lake Firefighters said they had to use rope rescue equipment and ice crampons to assist two people that were stuck on the side of an icy bluff Sunday evening.

Two rescuers were lowered down to help the two people, who were hanging onto roots in an effort not to slip.

STORY CODE: RESCUE

One person was 20 feet below the top. The other person was 150 feet below them.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

Glen Lake firefighters said when the sand turns to ice on the bluffs, it's almost impossible to get back to the top without the proper equipment.

Rangers from the National Park Service also assisted with the rescue operation.
