(BYRON CENTER, Mich.) Two Byron Center elementary schools are the recipients of the U.S. Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon School awards.

Both Brown and Marshall Elementary School have been recognized as 2022 recipients according to the school district's Facebook page.

This award is based on the progress a school makes in closing achievement gaps among different student groups when achieving academic excellence.

Byron Center Schools says its the only district in Michigan to have schools receive a Blue Ribbon award in 2022.

In a letter to families, Kevin Macina the BCPS superintendent said, "We could not have achieved this level of success without our students, staff, parents, Board of Education, and the community working together. The hard work, success, and dedication represents the achievement and success for all of BCPS. It embodies our mission of helping students build success stories throughout the entire district."

In the letter Macina said Brown Elementary also received a Blue Ribbon award in 2001 and 2015.

BCPS says Countryside Elementary received a Blue Ribbon award in 2017.
