(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) Grand Rapids residents will have the opportunity to celebrate National Thrive Outside Day with a series of free events starting Saturday September 24th.
The events have been organized the city's "Thrive Outside" organization.
On Saturday there will be an open house at the Thrive Outside gear library located at the Roosevelt Park community gym.
The event will have free food, gamily games, and camping equipment demos.
There will also be several other events in October with the goal of promoting the outdoors for people from all backgrounds.
“Equitable access to outdoor equipment and experiences is so important for our community,” said Gear Library Supervisor Sam Truby. “These spaces belong to all of us, and our hope is that Thrive Outside Day and the following events will empower a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts in Grand Rapids who feel comfortable and confident exploring the outdoors.”
On Saturday October 1st, there will be kayaking for first timers at Riverside Park.
On October 9th, there will be a 1.5 mile hike at Aman Park where participants will learn how to navigate a trail and how to hang a hammock.
Other events include a bonfire on October 19th at Roosevelt Park, and a hike on Plaster Creek Trail on October 22nd.
