(NATIONAL) Starting in October, student loan borrowers will be able to fill out an application to see if they're eligible for the student loan debt relief.

According to the Biden-Harris Administration, borrowers applying will not need to upload any supporting documents or an FSA ID when filling out the application.

Borrowers with most federal loans, including direct loans will be eligible for the relief.

Individuals with an income of less than $125,000 per year will be eligible for $10,000 of forgiveness.

Households with an income of less than $250,000 per year will also be eligible for up to $10,000 in forgiveness.

People who received Pell grants and meet the income qualifications will be eligible for up $20,000 in forgiveness.

The application period will go from October 2022 to December 2023.

Borrowers will be contacted when the applications are open.

If your loan service provider needs additional information from you, they will contact you.

More information about the student loan relief can be found online.

The federal government is also warning people to be aware of scams and says borrowers should only be working with loan servicers at the U.S. Department of Education.
