(BROKEN ARROW, Okla.) The Broken Arrow Police Department said 8 people are dead following a house fire near Houston Street and Elm Place that authorities believe was a homicide.

Police said it is a very complex scene with lots of moving parts and the condition of the house due to the fire, but the investigation is ongoing. They could not comment on the manner of death but did say they don’t believe there is any threat to the public.

One unidentified man who lives in the neighborhood said he heard from neighbors that shots were fired in the area around 3 p.m.

Police said firefighters responded to a fire call at 4:05 p.m.

In addition to BAPD and the Broken Arrow Fire Department responding, the ATF Police also appeared at the scene to serve as a resource for fire marshals at the scene investigating.

A joint press conference with the Broken Arrow police and fire departments is slated for Friday morning.
