(TULSA, Okla.) A suspect is in custody after a standoff at the I244 and Sheridan QT Tuesday evening. Captain Eckert, Team Commander for the Tulsa Police Special Operations Team, saw the suspect go through a school zone at about 70 MPH. When Eckert tried to stop the car, the driver decided that he didn't want to stop and kept driving for a low speed pursuit. The suspect, Carmel Taylor, stopped for a brief moment and let his girlfriend out of the car then continued on to the QT at 500 N. Sheridan. His girlfriend said that he had a gun and had been high on drugs. It was also discovered that Carmel Taylor had three misdemeanor warrants. Several attempts were made to talk the suspect out of the car for several minutes. When the suspect refused to comply with requests to exit the car, officers used some Pepperballs to try and change his mind. After some exposure, Taylor complied enough for officers to secure him and get him out of the car. Officers found a loaded pistol in the car. Taylor was booked in for his warrants and a couple of new charges. TPD thanks everyone for their patience during this protracted event.
