Murder suspect dead after shootout with GRPD
(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) An investigation is underway after a murder suspect died during a shootout with Grand Rapids Police Officers on Thursday afternoon.
The GRPD says they received a tip that the suspect was at a home on the city's south side.
According to GRPD as officers approached a residence near Jefferson Ave SE and Labelle SE the suspect came out and started firing shots at the officers.
Three of the officers returned fire while the suspect ran and continued to fire shots.
GRPD says the suspect went down in the 1400 block of Cass Ave SE and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unclear if the suspect died from self inflicted gunshot wounds or shots from the officers.
No officers were injured.
The three GRPD officers involved are currently on critical incident leave while the Michigan State Police investigate.
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
