Department of Corrections to start teaching inmates to code
OklahomaTechnology
(OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.) A new computer lab and coding course is set to be unveiled Monday at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center.
The innovative computer coding program for inmates was established through a partnership with multiple Oklahoma nonprofits and The Last Mile, an organization that trains inmates.
The Last Mile’s proven platform of advanced training will prepare students for a rewarding technology career after prison. Students will build websites and applications utilizing a secure network that mimics the internet.
The program is the result of a partnership among the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, The Last Mile, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the George Kaiser Family Foundation and the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation.
Oklahoma is the fourth state to host the program in one of its prisons.
