Williams said the entire north side of their house is a total loss and they’re unsure about other parts until the insurance company finishes its assessment.
Williams wants to get her parents into a house rather than a hotel for the coming months while cleanup and repair is done.
“With getting a house comes needing furniture since everything is a total loss (due) to the smoke and water damage,” Williams said. “Anything given will truly help them out.”
B-shift crews from Station 3, along with stations 2 and 7, and Rescue 1 responded to the Saturday blaze near Elm Place and 131st Street at 2:46 p.m..
Firefighters encountered heavy fire in the home’s garage extending into the house, work shed and a vehicle, according to the department’s Facebook post.
Crews were able to get a quick knockdown of the fire with a 2.5-inch hose line. All occupants were accounted for and uninjured. Firefighters were on scene for about 3.5 hours.
