(OSAGE NATION) Actress Lily Gladstone (Blackfeet/Nez Perce) made history Sunday night, becoming the first Indigenous actress to win a Golden Globe. Gladstone won Best Performance by a Female Actor – Motion Picture, Drama for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese's blockbuster film "Killers of the Flower Moon", starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

Gladstone spoke first in Blackfeet during her acceptance speech, later crediting her non-Native mother for securing her Blackfeet language education growing up.

"This is an historic win," Gladstone said. "It doesn’t belong to just me; I’m holding it with all my beautiful sisters, the film, my mother. I’m just standing on all of your shoulders.”

Gladstone received a standing ovation at the awards ceremony, but that wasn't the only one.

Her win was met by thunderous applause and another standing "o" at Osage News' Golden Globes Watch Party at Osage Casino Pawhuska, where a packed house of Osages, Killers of the Flower Moon cast and crew, and other well-wishers gathered to celebrate the historic night.

Osage News Editor Shannon Shaw Duty said what they saw Monday night was a validation for the Osage people, the Osage story, and for all of those Osage families who have had to deal with this generational trauma from these murders.

"They were recognized last night on a global stage," Shaw Duty said. "With Lily Gladstone winning the Golden Globe for her portrayal as Mollie Kyle Burkhart, who was from the Grayhorse district, a full blood Osage woman, is surreal, gratifying, tremendously important and historic. Our stories matter. With Lily‘s win, the doors have opened for more Indigenous actors and actresses in the industry."

Gladstone is just the second Native actress to receive a Golden Globe nomination.

Irene Bedard (Iñupiat/Cree) was nominated for one in 1995.
