(TULSA, Okla.) Six participants have been selected for Verified News Network’s (VNN) Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit and Transgender People (MMIWG2T) Historical Reporting Project:

Renata Hill (Mvskoke)

Sarah Liese (Turtle Mountain Chippewa and Navajo)

Carrie Johnson (Chickasaw and Pawnee)

Chelsea Hicks (Osage)

This new project seeks to demonstrate the connection between historical injustice and missing and murder cases today through a new dedicated series of 15-20 news stories. Each participant will receive one week of in-person historical investigation training, paid travel and accommodation, and a $2,000 stipend.

Historical investigation training and mentorship will be provided by Training Lead Allison Herrera (Xolon Salinan), an award-winning senior journalist at APM Reports.

The MMIWG2T Historical Reporting Project is supported by the International Women’s Media Foundation’s Fund for Indigenous Journalists: Reporting on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit and Transgender People (MMIWG2T).
