Suspect, children injured in officer-involved shooting

(HUGO, Okla.) UPDATE: The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday at approximately 2 p.m. in Hugo. While agents are still interviewing witnesses and conducting an investigation, this is what is known at this time:
• Detectives with the Hugo Police Department were looking for 21-year-old William Devaughn Smith in connection with the armed robbery of a Pizza Hut in Hugo on April 11.
• On April 26, 2019, two Hugo detectives made contact with Smith while he was parked at a food center located at 400 West Bissell in Hugo and shots were fired. Smith was wounded and taken to the hospital in Paris, Texas, which is 26 miles from Hugo.
• Four children were inside the vehicle. Three children, ages five, four and one, were also injured and taken to a Tulsa-hospital with non-life threatening injur ies.
• Smith was treated and released from the hospital at which point he was placed under arrest by the Paris Police Department for the armed robbery of the Pizza Hut.
• As of April 27, Smith is still in custody in Paris.
• The two Hugo police detectives are on paid administrative leave.
ORIGINAL STORY: The OSBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred approximately 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at 400 West Bissell in Hugo.
Hugo Police Department detectives were attempting to make contact with an individual they believed was the suspect in an armed robbery that happened the previous week.
Shots were fired and the suspect and two children who were present were injured. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Hugo Police Chief requested that the OSBI investigate the incident.
