(TULSA, Okla.) On Saturday at 11:15 p.m., a shooting call was dispatched to the QT located at 1443 S. Denver Ave.  Officers discovered James Middlestadt laying on the sidewalk on the west side of the property.  Middlestadt was shot one time in his groin area.  Officers made contact with the Security Guard on duty Darnell Muse.  Muse stated that a disturbance with the victim started in the QT and spilled out to the south side of the building.  Muse stated that the victim swung a large wooden club at him and further stated that the victim had a knife of some type.  Muse stated that he fired two or three shots in self-defense. Two cartridge casings were recovered from the south side of the parking lot and a large wooden didgeridoo was recovered from the area where the victim was located.  A witness at the scene stated that the victim handed off some sort of blade in a sheath to another homeless male before police arrived. Major Crimes responded and processed the scene.  Darnell Muse was transported to Detective Division where he was interviewed.  Surveillance video was recovered form QT and appears to back up Darnell Muse’s version of events.
