Ada officer shot after suspect opens fire

(ADA, Okla.) NEW INFORMATION: Ada police officers were attempting to serve Thomas Cole Thompson and his wife Kristina Thompson with felony warrants.
Upon arrival, 58-year-old Cole Thompson was outside the residence and opened fire on the officers.
Ada police officer Matthew Mericle was hit. Officer Mericle was taken to a local hospital and was treated and released.
Officers returned fire on Cole Thompson, hitting him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thompson's wife, 49-year-old Kristina, was taken to the hospital after the shooting for observation. She was released and taken into custody on the felony warrant. She is currently in the Ponotoc County Jail.
A third individual was located in the residence during the OSBI investigation. That individual also had warrants out for him, and he was also taken into custody.
Officer Mericle has six years of service with the Ada Police Department.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Ada Tuesday morning.
This is the latest on the investigation:
• At approximately 10 a.m., Ada Police Department officers were serving felony warrants at a residence in the 800 block of West 12th St.
• Upon arrival, the suspect was outside and opened fire on the officers.
• One Ada police officer was hit.
• Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
• The wounded officer was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
It is early in the investigation and more information will be released as, and when, needed.
