On Saturday at 2:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to reports of pointing a deadly weapon at Competition Auto at 7642 E. 46th Place. On arrival they learned that Derrick Washington went to the auto repair business to pick up his BMW. He was not happy with the service. He was accompanied by associates who were there to video the incident. Washington and the business owner argued over the car. Washington made threats of bodily harm and followed the business owner into his business. The business owner retrieved his handgun after he felt threatened by Washington. Washington took the handgun away from the business owner. He pointed it at him, then pistol whipped him with it. Washington put the handgun in his trunk of his car and waited for officers to arrive. During the investigation officers used the video provided by Washington's associates to determine that Washington was the aggressor in the incident and that the business owner's use of the handgun in his business was lawful. Washington was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon and booked at DLM. The business owner suffered lacerations to his head. EMSA treated him at the scene but he was not transported to the hospital.
