Stay issued in freedmen case
Written By: Jerrad Moore
(MUSCOGEE NATION) The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Supreme Court has issued a stay in the case of Citizenship Board of The Muscogee (Creek) Nation v. Rhonda K. Grayson and Jeffrey D. Kennedy. The case was scheduled for oral arguments on July 26.
According to the order on July 8 an application to assume original jurisdiction was filed with the MCN District Court. This new action seeks to have the MCN District Court hear arguments contesting the constitutionality of NCA 24-077, a recently passed law that amended Title 27 creating a new “Special Justice” position on the MCN Supreme Court. While the court hears briefs from the parties in this new action, all cases filed in which NCA 24-077 is implicated are to be stayed.
