On Sunday at 8:21 p.m. officers were assigned to Woodland Hills Mall at 7021 S. Memorial Dr. in reference to shots fired. When we arrived at the mall we spoke to security who told us that a B/M had fired several shots at his security vehicle. Mall security told us that they had escorted 3 juvenile males from the mall and asked them to leave the property. When the subjects left the main doors they split up and took off across the mall. Security started following the subjects to make sure they left the mall property. One of the subjects walked south through the parking lot and was standing next to E. 71st St. just west of the Cheesecake Factory. Mall security – Officer Tristan Kinnison – was driving in the parking lot when the subject pulled out a gun from his waistband and fired several shots at the security officer. Three of the rounds hit his security vehicle in the rear passenger side door. Security Officer Kinnison was not struck by any of the rounds. The suspect was last seen running south across E. 71st St. Suspect Information: The suspect was described as a B/M 16-18 years of age and was wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He was armed with an unknown caliber weapon. We searched the area where the shots were fired from and did not locate any shell casings.
