Police crackdown on South Memorial loitering, two arrested on drug charges
OklahomaCrime
(TULSA, Okla.) Last Friday, officers enforced trespass at Sonic at 4801 S. Memorial Dr.
The extra enforcement is the result of an increase in crime including assaults, drugs, and reckless driving occurring in the area. Sonic is working in partnership with the police department to stop the dangerous behavior. They close their drive-in stalls at 10:00PM but their drive-through remains open.
On Friday night officers issued 18 trespass citations to adults and juveniles who were loitering at the drive in. The suspects ranged in age from 16 to 47. The citations carry a stiff fine. Parents of the juveniles were called to the location to take control of their children.
During the enforcement action officers also found two persons who were in possession of marijuana and cocaine. Both drugs were found to be packaged for distribution. Officers believe the suspects brought the drugs to the location to sell.
Brandon Hawkins and Dontrell Murphy were arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Murphy tried to carry the ten bags of cocaine into the jail earning him an additional charge of carrying a prohibited substance into a jail. The cocaine was hidden in his underwear.
Officers wrote additional citations on area streets for drag racing and reckless driving. The enforcement is expected to continue in coming weeks.
