(ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich.) Northern Michigan residents can expect to see some extra cars on the road for a week starting June 13th.

That's because the North American Solstice & Sky Annual Meet (NASSM) is taking place at Shanty Creek in Bellaire this year.

Traverse City Tourism says the event is organized by the Michigan Kappa Club and takes place in a different location every year.

More than 125 owners of Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky cars will be driving during the event.

The car club is based in Michigan and organizers say they wanted to get back to the mitten state this year.

“I want the world to experience northern Michigan,” said organizer, Jim Lyddon. “We have lakes, along with curvy, hilly roads and amazing scenery. Everything that makes taking our cars out on the road great fun.”

If you're interested in seeing the cars up close there will be a car show in downtown Bellaire on Thursday June 17th.

It will take place from 7 to 9 p.m.

Drivers in the car club will also have the chance to participate in a timed competitive auto cross course in the Turtle Creek Stadium Parking lot.

Lyddon says the affordability of the Solstice and the Sky are what make them appealing.

“It’s a sports car for folks who may not have a lot of money to spend on a car,” said Lyddon. “It’s affordable and a fun car to drive.”
