(Binghamton, N.Y) It is not every day a Broome County local publishes a novel, especially an African American man. But that didn't stop James Parker from setting out on the unique path of becoming an author.

His premiere novel "Unveiled: Nexus Warriors" is already being consumed by readers and receiving a great response.

Parker said "Unveiled" is a young adult fantasy novel that follows Amora, a 17-year-old who discovers that she belongs to an elite warrior race called the Nexus.

“The goal of the Nexus is to protect the world from demons," Parker said. "When demons attack her adoptive mother, who hid her past from her, she must now go on a search for her father.”

A new fan gave the novel 5 stars on Amazon, writing that she was pulled right in from the start and is impatiently waiting for the next book in the series.

Parker said he has always had a creative mind and enjoyed reading all throughout high school.

“Outside of books, I have absorbed so much of different media that has influenced me," Parker said. "I also follow other indie authors. Seeing them on the same journey keeps me going."

Parker also said being an author excites him because he gets to connect with readers around the world through his writing.
