(TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.) Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) posted on Facebook Thursday that a student was hit while trying to get on the bus.

TCAPS says the incident happened Thursday morning and they are asking drivers to be aware of school busses on the roads.

“Flashing yellow lights indicate drivers must prepare to stop," said TCAPS superintendent Dr. Jon VanWagoner. "Red means stop. School is back in session and drivers are responsible for honoring school bus traffic laws to keep students safe. Today’s incident is an unfortunate reminder about the critical importance of school buses and student safety.”

The student who was hit was taken to Munson Hospital for treatment.

TCAPS says students and staff who saw the incident or are struggling will have the chance to speak with a social worker if they would like to.
