(MICHIGAN) The results are in and Gretchen Whitmer will serve a second term as governor.
Whitmer won against her Republican challenger Tudor Dixon.
Dixon says she has called Whitmer to concede and also released a statement saying, "Michigan's future success rests not in elected officials or government, but all of us. It is incumbent upon all of us to help our children read, support law enforcement, and grow our economy."
Michigan also had three proposals on the ballot including the "Reproductive Freedom for All" initiative that enshrines the right to an abortion into the state's constitution.
The passage of proposal 3 eliminates the abortion ban that was put into the state's constitution in 1931.
After the passage of Proposal 3, Loren Khogali, the executive director for the ACLU of Michigan said, "Today's win belongs to all of us. Together, we blazed a trail, making Michigan a national model of what other states can achieve across America."
Right to Life Michigan opposed the proposal and released the following statement: "We will hold Proposal 3's sponsors accountable for the misleading promises they made: that parental rights will be upheld, that late-term abortion will not be permitted, that there will be no tax-funded abortion, that only the 1931 abortion ban will be affected."
