Binghamton trainer turns personal success into launching point for others
(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.) After losing more than 125 pounds in only 8 months, Brooklyn native Russel Trevino is pouring his passion for fitness into a brand he calls All Active, for himself and for his community.
Trevino says his motivation to get healthy came after the Covid 19 pandemic. Having been asthmatic and overweight at the time, Trevino told VNN he thought he would die if he caught Covid. However, like most Americans, he did end up contracting the virus.
Following that ordeal, Trevino said, he realized that health is often taken for granted. Once restrictions were lifted, he joined a gym to set out on his personal fitness journey.
Along with physical workouts, Trevino used YouTube as a resource to educate himself about nutrition.
“I realized the food I was raised on is not good for me,” Trevino said. “Which is why things like diabetes are so prominent in the Black community.”
Trevino said All Active is not just about Black people and fitness but geared to all Americans.
Trevino’s brand quickly began to build traction thanks to his personal transformation. He said people often thought he had surgery due to his drastic change in appearance.
“People would tell me they have never seen this level of focus before,” Trevino said.
Trevino earned his license to train others from the International Sports and Science Association (ISSA) back in 2021 and has since been coaching community members on fitness journeys of their own.
“My favorite part is being able to motivate others,” Trevino said. “It’s like watching me all over again. I feel like working on YOU is the most important journey you can go on and I’m flattered people choose me to help them.”
After a local parent asked for assistance getting their 13-year-old fit for sports, Trevino decided to channel his energy towards the youth, launching his “Flex Fit Kids” fitness program.
The program has a current enrollment of 20 community children.
Originally a summer program, Trevino now plans to hold his program throughout the fall due to high turnout, with certificates of completion given at the end of every level.
Trevino said the program also educates children on nutrition and overall health, helping them to make smarter decisions in the grocery store, too.
Additional plans for All Active expansion include growing the brand through Trevino’s personal story, similar to what Michael Jordan did with “Air Jordan”.
With a blossoming reputation for transforming both himself and others, the Flex Fit kids program, and a recent launch of All Active apparel, it is safe to say Trevino is well on his way.
