(TULSA, Okla.) On Thursday at 3:00, officers were dispatched to reports of a domestic assault at a residence in the area of 8500 E. 25th St. On arrival officers saw Detravion Smith, the described suspect outside the residence. They detained him. The victim of the crime, who is the mother of a newborn infant, told officers that Smith used his fists to beat her unconscious. During the assault she attempted to call 911 but Smith took the phone away from her. After regaining consciousness the victim retreated to a bedroom with her infant child. Smith pursued her and choked her while she held the infant. When the family dog attempted to defend the victim by biting Smith he choked the dog. The victim fought to save the dog, pulling Smith off of it. Smith struck the dog with his fists. Smith was arrested for domestic assault by strangulation, domestic assault in the presence of a child, interrupting an emergency call, and cruelty to animals. Smith was booked at DLM. Fortunately, despite initial reports the infant was not injured. The victim suffered injuries to her face and neck that are consistent with her account of the attack. Both were treated at the scene by EMSA but refused hospital care. The dog was not injured.
