(TULSA, Okla.) On Saturday at 7:17 p.m., officers responded to a shots fired call at the Quik Trip, 1022 South Utica Avenue. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a Quik Trip security guard attempted to apprehend a larceny suspect, later identified as Joe Sparks in the parking lot when the suspect commanded his dog to attack the security guard. Sparks’ dog, a Pitbull mix then charged the security guard and chased him around the parking lot. The security guard reported that he feared an attack was imminent and fired one shot at the dog. Sparks fled the scene with his dog. However, within minutes of the call, officers located Sparks and his dog at 600 South Utica Avenue. Officers reviewed surveillance video from the Quik Trip, which recorded the larceny and attempted dog attack. Sparks was arrested for petit larceny, public intoxication, dog off leash and outstanding municipal warrants. Sparks was transported to the city jail and his dog was transported to the Tulsa Animal Welfare Shelter. The dog was not injured.
