Man shot dead after pulling knife on officer

(SAPULPA, Okla.) The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Sapulpa on Friday.
Based on the OSBI’s initial investigation, this is what is known at this time:
• This incident began at approximately 11 a.m. Friday when Michael Collins, 38, entered the Green Hill Funeral Home at South Main and Green Hill in Sapulpa wanting a drink of water.
• The individual Collins encountered at the funeral home called the Sapulpa Police Department because Collins was acting strangely and threatening to harm himself.
• Collins left the funeral home walking acros s Green Hill Cemetery and over to the adjacent cemetery, South Heights.
• One Sapulpa police officer responded to South Heights Cemetery.
• During the interaction with the officer, Collins pulled a knife and charged the officer.
• The officer fired his weapon wounding Collins.
• Collins was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
• The officer is on paid administrative leave.
There is no additional information to be released at this time.
Upon completion of the investigation, a report will be written and submitted to the District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney will determine whether or not to file charges.
