The free app “PlugIn powered by VNN” launched in Tulsa Monday, providing the public with an interactive role in verified news. FOLLOW THIS LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE FREE APP: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plugin-powered-by-vnn/id1419708542 Verified News Network, LLC (VNN) founder Brittany Harlow said the new mobile application is a first-of-its-kind blend of social and news media. “About 70 percent of people get their news from social media today, and the number is growing every year,” Harlow said. “But current social media is virtually unregulated. Anyone can put anything on there that they want and it’s up to the reader to determine what is true or not.” With the PlugIn app, content is moderated by users and technology filters. Users are divided into four categories: staff, official, expert and citizen. Once a user signs up, they are able to not only view content and personalize their news feeds, they can also upload their own news stories and opinions, becoming fully integrated into the news process. Users will also be able to track their uploaded content on their VNN profile page, which can be updated with a short bio and profile picture. Design and concept work for the PlugIn app powered by VNN began in January 2018. Tulsa-based development company Hot Coffey Design, LLC, began development on the app in March. Harlow said the app will be tested in the Tulsa market for approximately one year before being scaled nationwide. Those interested in more information can find in-depth details in the “Technology” section of the app.
