(TULSA, Okla.) The civic rights group Black Lives Matter announced plans for a Trump Protest to take place on Friday, June 19. The decision followed President Donald Trump’s announcement Wednesday that he would be resuming his re-election campaign rallies nationwide, starting with Tulsa on that day. The date, known as Juneteenth, is celebrated in black communities throughout the United States as the day when news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Texas in 1865, despite being issued on January 1, 1863. The emancipation of the slaves could not be enforced in the nation’s most southern slave state until the American Civil War ended in April of that year. The protest is scheduled to take place in the Greenwood District from 5 to 7 p.m.
