Weekend traffic, logistic plans for Juneteenth events, Saturday’s presidential visit

(TULSA, Okla.) With the President’s visit and Juneteenth celebrations happening this weekend, it’s important to take note of multiple road closures and logistical operations that will impact commuters, businesses and pedestrians in Downtown Tulsa. For the most up-to-date traffic maps, please see the attached documents and the City’s Traffic Flow Map at: http://maps.cityoftulsa.org/trafficflow/ On Thursday, June 18, crews started building fence lines near the BOK Center and surrounding areas. Downtown visitors can still move around the area in vehicles and pedestrians will be able to move about. Happening Friday Starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, W. Archer St. to 6th St. and S. Houston Ave. to S. Boulder Ave. will be closed to commuting traffic (see attached map). Pedestrian traffic will be cutoff in this area by 3 p.m. on Friday, except for those pedestrians who are camping outside the BOK Center. Those pedestrians will be allowed to stay and will be placed at the front of the line. All cars in the closed area should be moved before Friday at 10 a.m. TPD will tow any cars leftover in the area. If your car gets towed, call the TPD non-emergency line at (918) 596-9222. If you need to keep your car in downtown or near downtown, please ensure it’s parked outside the closed-off area in a lawful parking spot. Williams South Garage, Williams North Garage and the North Boulder Lot will all be open for public paid parking on Saturday, June 20. Other private parking lots and garages may also be open for parking so long as they are outside the closed areas. For those attending the Juneteenth celebration on Friday, please take note of the road closures listed above and road closures that will be put in place near John Hope Franklin Park. Rally-goers with tickets should receive instructions from event organizers on Thursday or Friday on how to get in and the protocols for doing so. Drones in the immediate area will not be allowed to fly. Private plane pilots will also be advised of certain flight restrictions on Saturday. Denver Avenue Station will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, and transfers will take place between Elgin and Frankfort on 4th Street. Report Suspicious Activity The events this weekend are expected to remain peaceful, but Tulsa Police ask you to keep your guard up. If you see or hear anything suspicious over the weekend, don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1. Please be mindful of things you’re seeing on social media and while you’re out. Safety Measures & Cooling Stations Because large gatherings come with an increased risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19, it’s asked residents and visitors take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others. When in close proximity to others, it’s asked you wear masks, frequently wash/sanitize your hands, and make sure you stay home if you’re not feeling well. Additionally, with weekend temperatures to be at or above 90° Fahrenheit, it’s important all who will be outside for any period of time stay hydrated and know how to get cool.
