(LONG LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich.) The Long Lake Township Fire Department says two teens helped a young child and two other people out of the other water after their kayak overturned.

It happened Monday afternoon on Long Lake near Taylor Park.

In a Facebook post, the Long Lake Township Fire Department said Gabe Oliver and Ethan Morgan heard people in the lake calling for help.

The two teens got in their fishing boat and went out to help the three people in the water.

According to the Long Lake Township Fire Department, Oliver and Morgan were able to get the young child and two other people into their fishing boat.

The department said when the teens got there, the three people were cold, but didn't appear to be injured.

The teens got the three victims back to shore and Long Lake Township Fire personnel were there waiting to evaluate the victims.

According to the Long Lake Township Fire Department, only the child was wearing a life vest.

Andrew Down the Long Lake Fire chief said the quick actions taken by Oliver and Morgan helped to mitigate a potentially dangerous situation.

The Long Lake Township Fire Department also said water temperatures are still very cold and hypothermia is a concern.

People going out on the water are encouraged to practice safety measures like wearing life vests.

“We urge everyone to prioritize safety precautions when venturing out on the water. This includes letting others know where you are going on the water and when you expect to return," said Down.
