Citizen feedback needed for Tulsa Mobility Innovation Strategy

(TULSA, Okla.) Tulsa Mobility Innovation Strategy, funded through Improve Our Tulsa, is under way with the goal of assisting our city as it adapts to new forms of transportation and prepares for future modes of travel. The Mobility Innovation Strategy aims to use smart mobility technologies to help solve Tulsa’s transportation challenges including equitable access to jobs and education, opportunities to improve quality of life, and access to emerging transportation options. Smart mobility typically refers to electric-powered transportation, automated driving systems, connected (vehicles that can communicate with each other and/or infrastructure such as traffic signals), and/or scooters and bikeshare. Through new technology, smart mobility can improve user convenience, cost, and safety while reducing congestion and pollution. “Over the last two decades the internet and smart phones have changed our lives, but our streets and transportation networks have functioned in much the same way as they have for the last 50 years,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “Now cities and transportation systems are poised to have their ‘iPhone moment.’ I am excited to see how these technologies can improve transportation options for people who currently struggle to move around our city, and how they can make our system safer and more efficient.” A public gathering will be held on the evening of Jan. 16, at Marshall Brewing Company, 618 S. Wheeling Ave. This event will feature a Mobility Open House from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., where attendees can interact with transportation innovations, and a project overview at 5:30 p.m., followed by a question and answer session.
