(JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla.) Dozens of cattle were killed in what officials are calling a “horrific event” near Wapanucka.
Johnston County Emergency Management said a truck carrying about 84 head of cattle ran off Highway 48 Thursday night.
JCEM said it appeared the truck got too close to the road edge and once on the wet ground the semi was impossible to recover. We’re told the cattle could also have shifted in the trailer, causing the truck to swerve off the road.
Crews shut down the highway between Wapanucka and Coleman Friday while they worked to free and care for the animals trapped inside.
We’re told the driver of the vehicle was not harmed, and only about 50 of the 84 head survived.
